Prescription Painkillers Cause King Country Deaths

Abuse of prescription drugs is the leading cause of drug-related deaths in King’s country. In 2008, prescription opiates caused 153 of 256 drug related death in King Country. This is just than double the number of deaths from any other drug. In an interview the deaths from the prescription drugs have soared up in the last 12 years. These were included as a factor in 21 of 178 drug-related deaths. Methadone, which is frequently prescribed for pain is the prescription drug which is often mentioned. The most common mentioned medicine is hydrocone, an ingredient used in Vicodin and oxycodone which would include OxyContin.

Methadone is a slow acting drug, and its pain reliving properties ends before the drug leaves the body. Due to this a user may take more of it believing that the drug won’t wear off even if it hasn’t.

The usage of this drug moves throughout the age groups. People around 50 years or older accounts for around 39 percent of the deaths involved with these drugs. At the same time, young people are also abusing prescription drugs. Some research reports states that the use of prescription drugs were being hooked up on prescription opiates before they started using heroin. And younger heroin drugs users were more likely to have started the use of this drug earlier.
