You must be thinking of drug addicts as individuals who lived under bridge and spent money to get drugs. Some of the closest friends and neighbors and even our grandparents are drug addicts all addicted to prescription drug addiction.

More than 15 million Americans are abused to controlled substance which doubles the amount from a decade ago. The increase in drug abuse has been with prescription drug addiction. The usage of these drugs is much higher than that of cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens etc. This addiction is spread across all generations from toddlers to grandparents.

Prescription drug abuse has now been common with our youth and often times it is happening right under the nose of family members without their knowledge. The children are getting used to such drugs with family cabinet medicine or buying drugs in the school d from other children. The senior citizens are being prescribed addictive drugs making them addicted to such drugs.

To make it worse the doctors are being blamed for such addiction. While it is easy to blame them, most people will listen to friends, family, churches and schools. Effective drug prevention is the ultimate solution. Unless we begin to take action against the abuse problem, the country has a will get overwhelmed with those addicted to drugs. It becomes the responsibility of citizens to put this problem in front of newspaper and in front of every legislative person. Our family, children, friends all are at risk.

So the ultimate point to note in such a case is that people who are addicted to drugs need immediate treatment as such a prescription drug addiction can be deadly. There are many organizations who have been providing public with information on prescription drug abuse through public service announcement and free brochures. As a result of which the public are encouraged to bring their unused prescription drug medications and get gift in exchange for the same. This way many more organizations should communicate to do the same to solve the problem of drug addiction.
