Drug Addiction | Death for Drugs over Dosage Drops

Death for Drugs over Dosage Drops
Every year lakhs of people die due to drug over dosage across the world. But this time Baltimore has reported decrease in no of deaths due to alcohol and drug over dosage the second time the lowest being in 1995.

Reports and survey proves that the deaths have decreased to about one-third compared to other cities. This success came due to increase no of drug treatment slots, better outreach to addicts and a 5 year course which teaches the drug addicts on how to avoid overdosing.

The Baltimore officials also states that all this has happened due to $1.1 million grant from state Alcohol and Drug Abuse Administration. Due to this grant the city was able to expand the treatment slots for heroin addicts which helped in decreasing over dosage.

This is definitely a success but the city has much more drug addicts than being cured. Official information states that 74,000 people needed the treatment out of which only 16,000 have been treated.

One of city’s major efforts was a program called Staying Alive which instructs drug users on ways to avoid drug overdose. They know that addicts can never halt addiction but such programs may reduce the harm of addiction.

Many people have been cured just by training them properly on drug over dosage treatments.

There are lots of cases reported on this city’s plan & efforts to revive the city by making the people over there aware about the consequences of drug over dosage and to treat those who are already addict to dangerous drugs.

So if any city or state makes efforts just what Baltimore did surely we can achieve a good no of declined death rates due to drug addictions.
