Drug Addiction Treatment Using Lasers

Russia one of the most developed & conflicted countries of world had been reported a large number of drug addicts, by the West.

One of its major institutes State Laser Surgery Institute in Chelyabinsk took this criticism and accepted the challenge to make it its country free.

Inside the Russian building one of scientist Arnold Kossel and his colleagues conducted a series of experiments on drug addicts. Firstly they attached electrodes to front and back of addicts head and analyzed the patient for 24 hours and administered the low levels of electric current leading to cravings of addictive behavior. This experiment lasted for 2 hours for about 300 subjects.

Then Kossel began experimenting with lasers initially on rats, dogs and then on human beings. From the year 2001- 2005 the doctor and his team drilled holes in patients skull and burned their parts of brain with laser. In the patients on whom these experiment was conducted were successfully treated for recovering from drug addiction.

But this treatment came to a standstill because the research team could not get the license again.

But through these laser techniques the research team has proved that they were able to cure around 104 people which is really a big amount and till date they are successfully recovered from drugs.

So there is a new and innovative concept of curing drug addiction using lasers also.

But the biggest drawback is that treatment was stopped in experimental stage and so no one can know the consequences associated with this treatment as it has never been came into market place.
